Are we happy with what we have, or hassled by what we don’t have?

The Spirit led the Apostle Paul to write this in 1 Timothy 6:6-8; “But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that.”

Thus, three recommendations:

  1. Be satisfied with life’s essentials. Problem: It’s easy in a culture of abundance to define “essentials” in a much broader sense than God ever intended.
  2. Be wary of life’s temptations. Problem: Satan tempts us to crave more, because God might not meet our needs tomorrow or next year.
  3. Be happy in life’s circumstances. Truth: Christ enables us to be happy regardless of what is going on. He is the constant in a world of change.
