A Heart for the Poor?
Part of God’s plan is that His people should be looking out for and helping the poor. “He who oppresses the poor shows contempt for their Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors God.” (Proverbs 14:31)
Typically, we don’t mind helping. However, we do tend to get weary of helping. We wonder why they don’t change something in their life and “stop being poor.”
Some can. Some can’t. The Bible reminds us of this reality. “There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be open-handed toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.” (Deuteronomy 15:11)
So where is our heart? Is it aligned with God’s heart? Are we reluctant or pro-active in helping the poor?
