The people of Israel had just done something that was incredibly incredible!
First, King David himself gave his personal treasures for the building of the Temple. How much? It was 110 tons of gold and 260 tons of silver.
Then other leaders (heads of clans, commanders, and other officials) gave sacrificial gifts. How much? It was 190 tons of gold, 380 tons of silver, 675 tons of bronze, and 3800 tons of iron.
Then, the people gave their gifts to the Temple project. (Teachable moment: people gave because the people at the top set the example.)
Then, Kind David put everything in perspective: 1 Chronicles 29:14 – But, who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from Your hand.
